On the coast east of Paphos, where the road winds above the sea towards the rock where Aphrodite is said to have risen from the waves, the hills hold both an ancient village and a modern resort. Kouklia and Aphrodite Hills offer a rare mix of deep history, open countryside and an easy-going resort life.

Kouklia is a village in the Paphos District, about sixteen kilometres east of the city of Paphos, near the mouth of the Diarizos river. It stands beside the remains of Palaepaphos, the capital of the ancient city-state of Paphos, first settled around 1700 BC, and the Sanctuary of Aphrodite Paphia. Together with Nea Paphos and the Tombs of the Kings, the site was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1980. Nearby, the Aphrodite Hills resort is built across two plateaus divided by a ravine, around 1.6 kilometres from Aphrodite's Rock.

Getting around is simple. The A6 motorway runs close by, linking the area with Paphos to the west and Limassol to the east. Paphos International Airport is a short drive away, which makes the area especially practical for owners who fly in and out regularly.

Life at Aphrodite Hills centres on its facilities. The resort has an 18-hole championship golf course, which hosted two European Tour events in 2020, along with a spa, tennis and multi-sports courts, and a village square modelled on a traditional Cypriot plateia, with a market, restaurants, shops, a chapel and gardens. Beyond the resort, the coast around Aphrodite's Rock and the archaeological site and museum at Kouklia make for easy outings.

Everyday amenities are found within the resort square and in the village of Kouklia, while Paphos offers larger supermarkets, hospitals, schools and shopping centres within a short drive. Limassol is reachable along the motorway for a wider choice of services.

The property market here is focused on resort living. Aphrodite Hills offers villas, townhouses and apartments, many with views over the golf course or the sea, and the resort's design uses local stone and Mediterranean-style architecture. In and around Kouklia village there are also traditional homes and plots in a more rural setting.

The area suits golfers who want the course on their doorstep, buyers looking for a managed holiday home, retirees seeking a quiet community with facilities close by, and investors interested in resort rentals near Paphos airport.
